New Releases...

Jack White - Blunderbuss
Spotify: Jack White – Blunderbuss
Pitchfork: Reviews: Blunderbuss
I am not a huge fan of Jack White. I didn't really like the White Stripes. Including the whole "we're brother and sister" thing, even though they were husband and wife (EW! Creepy). And I think he looks like a poor man's Johnny Depp. All that aside, I don't hate this album. It feels like no matter what he does his voice, as in his literal voice, sounds the same. A little creepy, a little eccentric and a little brilliant. And that is what makes the music interesting. He's unique. On a whole the album sounds older than its time. Which I certainly don't hate. I've always felt I was born in the wrong era and tend to lean towards the music of my Parent's generation (50s, 60s early 70s) which sometimes puts me out of touch with my own. But this appeals to me because of its 'wise beyond its years' feel while still remaining very relevant to today. Jack White, Congratulations! You've made me a fan with this album.

The Dandy Warhols - This Machine
Spotify: The Dandy Warhols – This Machine
Diamonback Online: Old Machine, New Tricks
The last Dandy Warhols album I cared about was 2009's The Dandy Warhols Are Sound and sadly it will remain that way. This Machine reminds me of The B52's, "Rock Lobster," meets Gorrilaz, "Clint Eastwood," with a smattering of The Beach Boys, "Bet Sounds," meets the horn section from The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, with the voice of Brad Roberts from Crash Test Dummies. If that all sounds fucking weird, it's because it is. It doesn't feel like it all belongs on the same album. I would say this album suffers from a bit of an identity crisis.

Brad - United We Stand
Spotify: Brad – United We Stand
Artist Direct: Stone Gossard Talks Brad's United We Stand, New Pearl Jam and More
This is the first I think I've actually listened to a Brad album all the way through, so I won't pretend to be an authority on the band or their sound. What I do know is that this is a side project of Pearl Jam songwriter and guitar God, Stone Gossard, so I don't have an unkind word to say about it ;) I think I'll go back and listen to every album on Spotify so I have something to compare this album to, upon completion I may have more to say. Stay TUNED!

New Music Tuesday!

Every Tuesday is an exciting new day for music! Here are a few selections worth checking out, with links to articles, reviews, videos and anything else I could find! As well as newsworthy items for everything else...

My apologies for the delay in my post! Busy day...

New Releases...
Alabama Shakes - Boys & Girls
Spotify: Alabama Shakes – Boys & Girls
Billboard Review: Alabama Shakes Arrive with Boys & Girls
This album feels old. Feels like it was released in the wrong era. Which isn't a bad thing. Lately, music has started to feel...stale, generic. This album is a stand out among the quid pro quo of what 2012 has had to offer so far. Listen for five minutes and you'll get it. Blast from the past in the present. Lead singer Brittany Howard is paving her legendary path in music. Can you believe she's only 23?! She sings with the experience of a woman tortured by love and life for decades. This album makes me jealous of my parents who got to experience the 60s and 70s in real time...but at least now I have Alabama Shakes in my life.

Florence + the Machine - MTV Presents Unplugged: Florence + the Machine
Spotify: Florence + The Machine – MTV Presents Unplugged: Florence + The Machine
Business Week Review: Florence in Catsuit Brings Art Deco, Pompous Rock to U.S.
The Unplugged album. Quite possibly the ONLY thing left from the legacy of MTV. I won't bore you with my opinions on MTV's tragic decline into mediocrity. No. That is for another day. But I will say, I had no idea the Unplugged album was still in production. Color me surprised when I happened upon the title on All Music. Florence has a great voice and some truly noteworthy tracks. Applause and banter between tracks only makes her even more adorable. I miss my MTV...

Halestorm - The Strange Case of...
Spotify: Halestorm – The Strange Case of...
Since my opinion would be completely biased on this one, I won't review...but I can say I find the first track simply delightful!!

M. Ward - A Wasteland Companion
Spotify: M. Ward – A Wasteland Companion
Rolling Stone Review: Album Reviews - A Wasteland Companion
I'm not sure I really heard this album when I played it. I listened, but my ears just weren't into it. There wasn't anything that stood out or make me take notice, so it pretty much served simply as background music to my day. Of course Zooey Deschanel performs on a song or two which made it adorable, but not great, though it seems I may be the only one of this opinion.

New Releases:
Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded Deluxe Edition (explicit)
Spotify: Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday ... Roman Reloaded
HipHopDX Review: Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday Roman Reloaded
I can't even believe I listened to this album. I pretty much despise everything this woman stands for...BUT, something happened around the eighth track. It stopped sucking. Or perhaps, the first seven tracks were just a little too...hardcore rap for me. Talking about body parts and just being gross, set to a beat that pretty much made me want to jump out my 28th floor window. But at track 8, the mood changed from grungy rap to dance club. Now, dance club isn't really my scene either, but I can't help myself. When I hear a good beat, whether I'm out, at home or sitting at my desk, I feel the need to DANCE! And...I hate to admit it,  she has a great voice. Too bad (much like Lady Gaga) you're so distracted by a persona that's larger than life her voice kind of fades into the background. I am pleasantly surprised with this album. I am not sure I would buy it, but if I did, I can tell you with certainty, the first seven tracks (as well as "Stupid Hoe") would have to go immediately.

The Lumineers - Self Titled

Washington Post Review: Quick Spin: The Lumineers - Self Titled Debut
I'm pretty disappointed this album isn't available on Spotify! And sadly, I am at a computer that I can not make purchases on iTunes. BUT. I am fairly confident, this album is amazing. Once I get home and can purchase the album, all will be right with the world and a review will ensue. Until then, please enjoy the below video of single "Ho Hey."

Of Monsters And Men - My Head Is An Animal

Daily Nebraskan Review: Of Monsters And Men's Debut Album Exudes Charm Talent
I started listening to a Seattle radio station, 107.7 The End, at the beginning of the year via streaming online. I had never heard Of Monsters And Men before, but The End was a fan for sure. After hearing the song, "Little Talks" the first time, I recall checking the streaming player to find out who the artist was and it's been love at first hear ever since! Who would have thought a band from Iceland could produce such warm and cozy music!
