New Releases...

The Temper Trap - self titled
Spotify: The Temper Trap – The Temper Trap
Review: Metro
I'm never really surprised when disappointed by a band of whom I only know one song. Since I consider myself an eternal optimist, I always feel there is a slight chance I may be wrong. In this case, I am so not wrong. "Sweet Disposition" was definitely one of my favorite tracks of 2009. I remember trying to find the album only to realize it wasn't available in the US. It was only because of the (500) Days of Summer Soundtrack I got my hands on the song and listened to it everyday, all day. I can honestly say I have never heard the album the track was on (Conditions) because that song was really all I needed. It was, to me at that time, the perfect song. So, as I sat here listening to their new self-titled release, I was waiting for another "Sweet Disposition." Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Nothing. Not only did it never happen, but when did lead singer, Doug Mandaji's voice sound so...Broadway? I could forgive the vocals if the music was amazing. But I was not impressed even by the music. The album sort of sounds a bit like 2006's Are You Nervous? by Rock Kills Kid. Which I liked, in 2006. I think this eternal optimist needs to accept defeat and move on.
Tracks: Never Again

Patti Smith - Banga
Spotify: Patti Smith – Banga
Review: National Post
Patti Smith's voice is unmistakable. Never replicated. Original. All Patti Smith. Her career spans four decades. FOUR DECADES! And in her first album of original songs in eight years you hear the wisdom, grace and artistry in her journey and voice. Starts off rather upbeat but quickly turns down. I appreciate Patti Smith as an artist though I have not always been a fan of her music. To me, she will always seem like a tortured soul. Whether that's the truth or not, whatever she's doing, it works.
Tracks: Amerigo, This Is The Girl

Madagascar 3 Soundtrack
Spotify: Various Artists – Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (Music From The Motion Picture)
If you don't like the Madagascar franchise, you have no soul, no inner child or sense of humor. Whether you're eight or 80 nothing beats a movie that can make you genuinely laugh, tears pouring down your face. Laughing so hard you miss the next funny line because you're still laughing from the last funny line! Well hold onto your boot straps, the soundtrack is equally as entertaining. Hans Zimmer adds some pretty amazing edge-of-your-seat type songs, but on a whole you're listening for tracks like "Hot In Herre," sung by MY favorite character, Julien. "I am gettin so hot, I wanna take my fur off..." I mean seriously, HILARIOUS! In theaters everywhere TOMORROW!
Tracks: Hot In Herre, Afro Circus/I Live To Move It

Oh to be a kid again...

Clutch - "Pigtown Blues" (non-album single)
Spotify: Clutch – Pigtown Blues
A little dirty. A little country. A little rock n roll. Makes me want to drink Jack Daniels and smoke Camel cigarettes. What a great sound. What a great band. What a great beard. Could the release of this single mean a new album is on the horizon? Let's hope so...
